Beca de doctorado en la Universitat Rovira i Virgili

The Sipomics research group (Signal Processing for OMIC Sciences) and the
Metabolomics Platform (http://www.metabolomicsplatform.com) from the Rovira i
Virgili University is seeking candidates to apply for a 4-year scholarship to obtain
the PhD at our research facilities located in Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain).

The main research field related to the scholarship is bioinformatics: The goal is to
develop algorithms to convert raw data coming from state-of-the-art instruments into
meaningful clinical information. Most of the work will be centred in 2D data
processing such as baselining, deconvolution, alignment and chemometrics of 2D data
from different mass spectrometry instruments (such as GCxGC-TOF and MALDI-TOF-TOF)
for metabolomics applications.

Candidates need to hold a bachelor degree or/and a master degree to be eligible for
the position. The ideal candidate should have, at least a computer programming,
telecommunications engineering, chemical or physics background. A solid background,
knowledge and/or experience in programming is a must. Programming will be mostly
done in either R or matlab and therefore experience on these programming platforms
will be taken into account. English should also be spoken fluently.

We offer a 2 year Scholarship plus a 2 year contract to perform the research work
that would lead the candidates to obtain their Ph.D. degree in our doctorate program
at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Rovira i Virgili University.
Moreover, if the candidate lacks a master degree, the scholarship will also allow
and require them to obtain their Master degree on Electronic Engineering at our
department (http://www.urv.cat/masters_oficials/en_enginyeria_electronica.html). In
all, the scholarship duration is 4 years.

Tarragona is a Mediterranean city with a mild climate, 100km South-East of
Barcelona. Candidates should send their CV to Dr. Serena Pujol through her email
address (serena.pujol@urv.cat) no later than September 25th. A letter of research
interest and intentions would be greatly appreciated as well as recommendation
letters from tutors or mentors if available.
